Consultant for Interactive Popular Theatre (IPT) Show on Child Protection

1. INTRODUCTION

Save the Children has been working in Bangladesh since 1970, partnering with the Government of Bangladesh, local NGOs, and communities to ensure every child survives, learns, and is protected. Our programs address a wide range of issues, including child protection, education, health and nutrition, humanitarian response, and climate change adaptation.

2. BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

Child Protection is one of the key priorities in the humanitarian and development context in Cox;s Bazar, Children are face multiple child protection risks such as violence, neglect, child labour, child marriage, family separation, online safety concerns, and psychosocial distress. Strengthening community awareness and promoting positive behavior change are essential to creating a safe and protective environment for children.

Interactive Popular Theatre (IPT) is a participatory communication approach that uses drama, storytelling, music, and facilitated dialogue to engage communities in reflection and action on key social issues.

The organization intends to engage a qualified consultant for a six-month assignment to design and facilitate Interactive Popular Theatre (IPT) activities while strengthening the capacity of five adolescent girls' groups across Camp 13, Camp 17, Camp 19, Haldia Palong, and Ratna Palong.

The consultant will serve as a technical facilitator and mentor, equipping adolescents with practical skills in participatory script writing, story development, and IPT performance techniques. This will include demonstrating the step-by-step process of developing community-based scripts, guiding participants in identifying relevant child protection and social issues, and supporting them to transform these issues into engaging and meaningful theatre performances.

In addition, the consultant will build participants' capacity in local resource mobilization and the use of locally available, low-cost materials for IPT production. This includes training adolescents on the design and preparation of simple costumes, props, and stage materials using affordable and accessible resources, ensuring sustainability and community ownership of IPT initiatives beyond the project period.

A key objective of the assignment is to establish and strengthen sustainable community-based IPT groups as local assets for child protection awareness and advocacy. Through hands-on coaching and practical demonstrations, the consultant will support participants to develop skills in low-cost costume and prop making, stage management, resource mobilization, performance coordination, and audience interaction using locally available materials and resources.
