Projahnmo Research Foundation (PRF), in association with Johns Hopkins University, USA has a long and illustrious history of conducting research in Bangladesh. PRF’s research has contributed to improvement of health of Bangladeshi citizens and has supported the career development of numerous Bangladeshi public health professionals. Projahnmo Research Foundation is seeking qualified and motivated applicants from Bangladeshi nationals for the position of Study Physician for a World Health Organization (WHO) coordinated multi country multi-site clinical trial titled “Efficacy of probiotic supplementation in preterm and small for gestational age infants. A multi-centre, placebo-controlled, individually-randomised trial.”

The study is implemented in Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH), Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital (SWMCH) and Jalalabad Ragib Rabeya Medical College Hospital (JRRMCH) in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Job Description / Responsibility:

Major Responsibilities

The Study Physician is primarily responsible for the implementation of the trial at selected hospitals. However, s/he will also contribute to other study-related activities and provide support for administrative, and management tasks as needed.

Job Description / Responsibilities:

1. Implementation of Study Activities

  • Conduct history taking, physical examination, and assess eligibility criteria of participants for enrollment into the study as per the approved study protocol.
  • Obtain informed consent from the mother of the study-eligible participants.
  • Conduct follow-up visits (scheduled and unscheduled) of enrolled participants.
  • Assess sick study participants either at the hospital or at home (for referral failure cases) and manage them as per guidelines.
  • Identify gaps/challenges in study activities and discuss potential solutions with the supervisor

2. Clinical and Research Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate identification, enrolment, and follow-up of preterm and small for gestational age (SGA) infants as per WHO guidelines.
  • Collection of data from labour and delivery records, mother's healthcare history, infant’s healthcare history, anthropometric measurements, suspected clinical sepsis cases, and feeding practices.
  • Maintain proper documentation for all study visits, including capture of concomitant medication, adverse events, and medically attended adverse events (MAE) during scheduled and unscheduled visits.
  • Manage the site master file for all kinds of documentation under the guidance of the study manager.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines in all study-related activities.

3. Administrative, logistical and other responsibilities

  • Maintain liaison with hospital administrators, physicians, nurses and other staff for smooth implementation of the study.
  • Ensure the optimal use of project logistics, including data collection tools, computers, and laboratory materials.
  • Liaise with other project staff and provide support to them as and when required.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor related to the study and organizational goals.

Educational Requirements:

  • MBBS with valid BMDC registration, master’s degree in public health (MPH) is preferred.
  • Candidates with experience in research or project implementation will be given preference.

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of ethical guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to summarize results or observations.
  • Willingness to accept challenges and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Willingness to work beyond office hours, including weekends and holidays if required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Job Nature: Fixed term

Reports to: Project Manager
