Consultant - Neonatologist

The Opportunity
The Consultant Neonatologist will provide both technical and operational leadership for the Special Care Newborn Unit (SCANU), including child health departement with a primary focus on neonatal and child health in a humanitarian camp setting. The consultant will ensure the delivery of standardized, high-quality newborn care, including management of sick and premature infants and related critical cases, implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols, and monitoring of clinical outcomes.

The role includes oversight of neonatal equipment and resources, ensuring functionality and readiness for emergency and routine care. The consultant will work collaboratively with obstetricians, nurses, midwives, and other clinical staff across inpatient, emergency, delivery, and outpatient areas. S/he will maintain direct communication with the Senior Medical Officer and the SCANU in-charge to provide guidance, mentorship, and capacity building for the neonatal care team, ensuring optimal service delivery and adherence to national and humanitarian health standard.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience practicing independently as a Paediatrician (i.e., does not require supervision).
  • MBBS degree recognized by the BMDC with DCH/MCPS/FCPS/MD or equivalent degree and 5 years of job experience in pediatric medicine, SCANU/NICU and child nutrition field.
  • Up to date registration license from Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council.
  • Up to date evidence of current licence and registration to practice.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote and insecure locations, in unstable areas
  • Previous experience of managing paediatrics complications often associated with humanitarian emergencies.
  • Advanced life support, paediatric life support and neonatal life support trained or their equivalents
