Background

We are achieving this goal by helping children in historically low-income communities develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and by supporting girls as they build skills to succeed in school and negotiate key life decisions. We collaborate with governments and other partner organizations to deliver positive outcomes for children at scale. To date, Room to Read has benefited more than 39 million children and has worked in 24 countries and in more than 192,000 communities, with additional support through remote solutions that facilitate learning beyond the classroom. Room to Read aims to reach 40 million children by 2025.Room to Read Bangladesh is committed to evaluating its Literacy and Girls’ Education programs through comprehensive assessments and evaluations in its implementation areas. Our ‘Literacy Portfolio’ transforms Primary schools to enable children to become independent readers and lifelong learners. We build capacity of teachers, create quality storybooks, and establish classroom libraries filled with diverse children’s books that can be enjoyed at school or home. We partner with local communities, government and the publishing industry to implement innovative models that help children succeed in school and develop a love of reading.
Our ‘Girls’ Education Portfolio’ equips girls with the skills to succeed in Secondary school and make key life decisions. We prepare girls to make positive changes by providing life-skills education, psychosocial and peer support while engaging family and community. Our program supports young people to build knowledge and skills to cocreate a gender-equal world. We also support Government and donors to deliver similar programs through their education system.
