The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.

GIZ Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of “Intern” under ‘Biodiversity’ cluster from candidates who are attending a course of further study of which the completion of an internship is an integral component or have graduated no more than six months before commencing the internship.

Contract Duration: Maximum Six Months

A. Responsibilities:

The position holder will contribute to the smooth operation of project activities by:

  • Supporting the planning and documentation of events, including field missions, stakeholder workshops, and community engagement sessions.
  • Assisting in the collection, compilation, and organization of data from government counterparts (Bangladesh Forest Department, Department of Fisheries), local government institutions, NGOs, and communities.
  • Contributing to the preparation of bilingual (English and Bangla) communication and knowledge products, including reports, factsheets, and social media content related to marine and coastal conservation.
  • Conducting background research on relevant thematic areas, including marine and terrestrial biodiversity, blue economy livelihoods, gender inclusion in communities, and climate-resilient protected area management.
  • Supporting knowledge management and the exchange of information within the biodiversity cluster and towards external stakeholders and partners.

In this context, Intern will perform the following tasks:

B. Tasks:

Event Coordination & Logistics

  • Assist in organizing and documenting meetings, workshops, national dialogues, community awareness campaigns, and training events under the Biodiversity Cluster.
  • Support the preparation of logistics for field visits to project sites.
  • Prepare, compile and archive meeting minutes, attendance records, and event-related materials as required.

Communication & Knowledge Products

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading project communication materials in English and Bangla, including reports, factsheets, presentations, project briefs, and social media content.
  • Support the documentation of project success stories, community case studies, and best practices related to marine conservation and sustainable blue economy livelihoods.

Research & Data Collection

  • Collect and synthesize project-related data and information from relevant stakeholders, including BFD, DoF, partner NGOs, academic institutions, and coastal community representatives.
  • Conduct desk research and literature reviews on thematic areas relevant to the biodiversity cluster,

Knowledge Management & Digital Tools

  • Assist in maintaining organized project records and documentation using digital tools, including MS Teams, SharePoint, and other GIZ-approved platforms.
  • Support the management and archiving of project files, photographs, field reports, and stakeholder correspondence including metadata.

Administration & Operations

  • Provide general administrative and coordination support to the biodiversity team and carry out any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

C. Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Marine Science, Fisheries, Oceanography, Forestry, Zoology, Development Studies, Social Science or a closely related discipline.

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Bangla
  • Digital competency, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and digital collaboration tools (e.g. MS Teams).
  • Experience in supporting events such as workshops, training, or community meetings (through academic projects, student leadership, or previous internships) is an advantage.
  • Photography, videography, or graphic design skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe) are preferred
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, and collaborate effectively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Detail-oriented, results-driven, and able to manage multiple tasks under time pressure.
  • Open to occasional travel to project sites outside Dhaka.

  • Community engagement methodologies and gender-responsive approaches in conservation and sustainable livelihood programming.
  • Event management and stakeholder coordination in the context of international development cooperation.
  • Bilingual communication and knowledge product development for development projects.
  • Knowledge management within the context of GIZ and international technical cooperation.
  • Field exposure to GIZ's integrated approach linking government institutions, local communities, NGOs, and academic partners in Bangladesh.
